  1. Total hemocyte count (THC) was determined on SYBR Green I-positive cells. THC is expressed as the number of hemocytes per milliliter. Hemocyte mortality is the percentage of propidium iodide-positive hemocytes. Phagocytic capacity is reported as the percentage of hemocytes having engulfed three or more fluorescent beads. Oxidative activity was evaluated through the production of reactive oxygen species and expressed in flow cytometric arbitrary units (A.U.). All differences were nonsignificant (ANOVA)
