Relationship between summed (4 species) recruit densities in late winters of 2 preceding years (summed, calculated from data shown in Fig. 2, but Limecola balthica numbers × 0.1) and summed 4-species biomass (B) for bivalves of < 5 cm shell length. The best fitting curve: B = 5.2 + 0.075 R—0.00012 R2 g AFDM m−2 (r2 = 0.32, n = 44). For the 40 points at R < 300 m−2, the best linear fit was: B = 6.11 + 0.052 R g AFDM m−2 (r = 0.60, n = 40, p < 0.001)
